The versatile British Berkefeld system is the ideal system for use at home, travel, outdoor activities or during unexpected emergencies.
This powerful system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for everyday use, outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available.
Constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel, the system comes complete with 2 filters: ceramic Super Sterasyl or Black Berkey filters, as well as optional PF Reduction Elements. This system has a storage capacity of about 8.5 litres (2.25 gallons) and when in use it stands about 48cm (19.25") in height with a diameter of 21cm (8.5"). The upper chamber nests within the lower chamber for transport and stands only 32cm (13") in height.
When used with 2 ceramic filters, the system is capable of filtering about 45-55 litres (12-15 gallons) per day.
PF elements contain inert high-grade activated alumina, an efficient way for reducing fluoride from drinking water. This element works in conjunction with a Doulton filter and will reduce unwanted impurities by adsorption.
Why do we need to filter our drinking water?
Town or municipal water can contain variable levels of contaminants such as chlorine, bacteria, cryptosporidium, giardia, rust, etc. Private water supplies such as wells, bores, springs, streams and rainwater tanks have not been treated, so can easily be contaminated with bacteria, cryptosporidium and giardia.
Any water can contain large amounts of unwanted impurities such as mud, silt, rust, etc. The pipes carrying and supplying the water may be adding impurities as well.
